Irene

This past Thursday Irene joined our weekly consciousness discussion group. She falls into my target demographics for “Living Your Dream: Designing the Next Chapter of Your Life.” That is the working title of the sequel to “Build Your Dream: 12 Essential Tools for Successful Living” She fits the profile of the audience I want to speak to in that book.

A description of those demographics would be:
1. Age fifty or older.
2. About to retire.
3. Retired but working either out of necessity or by preference.
4. A hobbyist.
5. Still working, financially able to retire but reluctant to let go of their position.

j0444934I’ll deal with each of those categories in future blogs and in the book but for now Irene’s story is of interest to all of us.

She turned to me and said, “I read your book and loved it. I found it personally very valuable and sent it to my son to read. He is really in need of the kind of help you provide in the book.”

That is truly a mother’s love for her son in action with his success, future happiness and well-being at heart.

The same thing happened this morning as I was talking to a friend of Patricia’s, Mary Clausen. She was telling me about her son, Andre, who is experiencing some of the same issues as Irene’s son. When I told her about my conversation with Irene, she said she would go to the bookstore and buy a copy and send it to him. Another example of love.

It occurred to me that the reverse of those scenarios would very likely happen when many of you for whom Build Your Dream was written read Live Your Dream and see its relevance.

I see millions of sons and daughters who, in seeing their parents struggling to redefine themselves in retirement, out of love send them a book that will contribute to their success and happiness.

I’m encouraging all of you to think not only of yourselves but also of the important people in your life.

The blogs to follow and the soon-to-be-published book are for everyone.

Senior Success

Today begins a new series designed to contribute to our growth and iStock_000008455557Large[1]success.

First some back ground.

I published my first book, “Build Your Dream: 12 Essential Tools For Successful Living”, last fall. I’m in the process of doing the research for a sequel directed to the aging population of America i.e. retiring Baby Boomers.

Like “Build Your Dream” it will be a self-help book, but for those people, presumably over the age of 50, who are transitioning into the next chapter or phase of their lives.

I’m living in an area where there are a great many people who meet those set of criteria thus affording me the opportunity to research the factors  that affect our happiness and sense of fulfillment in both positive and negative ways.

More tomorrow.
