If you are at or near the traditional age of retirement, this series of blogs is for you.
I’ve made a study of what it takes to ensure a rich full and satisfying 2nd chapter of life. In these blogs I’ll be sharing the insights I’ve gained with the hopes they will be of benefit to you.
Harry O. Hamm was a man I admired greatly because of his wit, his intelligence and his business acumen. I interviewed him one afternoon in his home near Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills California. I’ve made a habit of interviewing successful people in order to learn from them. That interview took place over 40 years ago and what I learned from Harry was reinforced for me when I recently met the talented artist, Michael Jones, michaeljonesdesigns.com. I was impressed not only with the uniqueness of his art but the sheer volume of it. “How do you do it I asked. He gave me the same answer that Harry had given me, work. He said I’m in my studio by 8;00 a.m. and don’t leave before 6:00 p.m. I tell my wife if I don’t work I’m not fit to live with.
Whatever our passions or interests are in the second chapter of life, I’d recommend that we heed the advice rom these two very successful men. Work! Maybe not with the intensity that we did during the first chapter but let’s honor the privilege we have of living and put a decent amount of effort into our activities. This is guaranteed to make our lives worth living.
